Graphics in web design are any visual material that is not just text. Graphics also include any text that is organized or illustrated with such visual elements. For example, graphics include the following:

  • photographs
  • charts and infographics
  • logos

Objectives of graphics

The main task of graphics is to improve the user experience. In addition, graphics can diversify, supplement or even completely replace text. The Internet environment is not only about presenting text and information in a pure form, but also about creative expression, visualizing data and adapting information for different target audiences. These standards of the Internet environment make graphics an integral part of any website.

Graphics in business

Graphics are important for any business as they can both entertain, teach and emotionally affect the consumer. This is what is used in enhancing the image of a business. For example, certain colors and shapes can be associated with certain companies. Logos of well-known brands are easily recognizable even if they do not contain the company name. Thus, it is impossible to create a successful corporate image without the use of graphics.

Types of graphics

Any element of graphics, depending on its purpose, can be assigned to one of the following categories:

  • Illustrations – visually explain ideas and depict specific objects. Illustrations supplement text with images taken from real life, which helps users connect the information they receive with their personal experience. Photographs, images, etc. belong to this category of graphics.
  • Data visualizers – summarize numbers and statistics on a particular topic. Visualizing data allows you to compare them and see how they interact. This type of graphics allows complex statistical data to be displayed in an easy-to-understand way. Thus, the client will be easier to understand what the site owner is trying to convey to him. This category of graphics includes infographics, charts, tables, etc.
  • Analyzers and organizers – indicates cause-and-effect relationships and the logic of processes. This type of graphics illustrates complex processes in a simple and accessible way, showing how some events/ideas give birth to others and how they add up to a single system. Such graphics are good at explaining to clients the essence of complex, integrated services, explaining why certain actions are needed in the workflow. This type of graphics includes infographics, schemes, etc.
  • symbols – are representatives of organizations, functions, sections of the site or any other elements or ideas. Usually symbols are very simple – they are designed to be understandable to any target audience. Logos, icons, etc. belong to this category.
